Sound Check
In the excitement of
the early morning hour,
a bloated silence seems
about to burst--
its thin membrane drawn
tight across the brim.
Waiting for the perfect prompt,
the pencil perches
on the page and with
the slightest inspired breath,
the instrument
begins its serenade.
